    RCOM 380

    by Heidi G on Jun 20, 2024

I bought the 190 and the 380 together. Thus far I'm okay with the 380. It's very quirky and definitely has cold spots and hot spots. The 190 is terrible, although I prefer that size. The 380 fans don't seem quite strong enough, and you have to load from the bottom to the top and back then front or your eggs on the top shelf will get cooked as new eggs heat up. You also need to zero out the humidity each time before you open the door or it will probably overfill the humidity tank. That said, as long as you follow those directions, it seems to work fairly well. It's in a conditioned room where the temperature stays very constant at around 80. I'm not super happy with the temperature swings allowed by the incubator, but unlike the 190, the 380 does seem to keep the temperature swings within acceptable boundaries. So I'd say it works decently well. I would give it more than three stars except that there's nothing in the directions that tells you how you have to load in a certain order, and nothing in there. About the fact that opening the door often causes the humidity tray to overflow. The temperature was also off by over a degree but that's easy enough for me to adjust to since I have good thermometers. I hatch a lot of eggs so I prefer a nice cabinet incubator. After several years with a gqf, I decided to try out these guys. Overall, the 380 is acceptable. But I think I got better hatch rates out of my Hovabator Genesis styrofoam incubator. Other than the fact that you have to zero out the humidity every time you open the door, I really do like the humidity and the water pump on this machine. Very well built as far as that goes. I'd say the shelves are a little bit unstable compared to gqf. I use standard gqf egg holders inside the baskets that come with this machine and that works fairly well. Now that I know the quirks of this machine, I would say it's about equal to the gqf 1502 that I used to have. Neither one ever kept the temperature as stable as my Genesis. Unfortunately. However, I really dislike having to add water into the Genesis all the time. Just got to pick your battles with these incubators I guess.
