What size is right for me?

Did you know the only difference in measurements between 10 frame and 8 frame boxes is the width? 8 frame equipment is narrower than 10 frame, and not always compatible with other 8 frame equipment as dimensions vary slightly by manufacturers. 10 frame equipment offers more space for brood and honey production.

    Deep Supers

Wood is good quality but the joints don't line up at all. Had to trim them on both of the boxes I ordered so they would go together.

    Deep Hive Bodies

by Emily Fischer on Jul 23, 2024

I have bought all my wooden ware from Mann lake over the past couple years. I have a few deep boxes that are not flush along the bottoms of the sides so now I have boxes that the front or back of the box has an almost 1/4" gap between it and the box below. Not ideal. Unfortunately I think I am going to have to buy my wooden ware elsewhere now.

    Quality getting worse

by DAN SCHMIDT on May 26, 2024

I have placed 3 orders for wooden ware from MannLake. Each order the quality of the wood goes down. The last order included 2 unassembled commercial grade deeps. There were knots on the finger joints, one corner had a small pice already broken. The worst part was it looked like something had chewed on all of the jointed edges. Not sure if their blades are dull, new employee or what but how did those priced even get by quality control. Looking for a new supplier now.

    Poor Quality Control

by Sam on May 17, 2024

I’ve purchased four of these now. For the first two, the wood quality was as advertised. One box had joints that fit together quite well, but the other box had misaligned box joints. I was able to get it to work eventually, but it took a lot more chiseling and sanding than it should have. Since the first box went together so well, I thought the second must have been a fluke. So, I decided to buy two more. For the second two, the wood quality is as described for 1, but the other box has fat knots. One of the knots has a 2” crack that goes all the way through. The same box has two 5” cracks in the grain that go almost all the way through the board. As for fit, their joints are so misaligned that it would be faster for me to build two new boxes from scratch. Mannlake is just over an hour from my house. It’s extremely frustrating to blow a couple hours, my fuel, and $50 on what is essentially scrap wood. I’m very grateful for Mannlake and all the help I’ve received when I’m there. In no way do I think these boxes are a reflection of them or what they have to offer. With that said, these boxes are not worth the money.
