Description

As winter approaches, beekeepers face the challenge of ensuring their honey bee colonies survive the harsh months ahead. Pro-Winter Feed is the ideal solution for feeding bees when natural resources are scarce. Made in the USA.

Using the Right Bee Food for Winter

Our Pro-Winter Feed is meticulously formulated to mimic the natural winter diet of honey bees. Unlike sugar syrup or granulated sugar, it provides a balanced nutritional profile with high carbohydrates and minimal protein.

This careful formulation ensures your bees have enough honey energy without stimulating premature brood rearing. Place these patties directly above the cluster, allowing easy access without disrupting the bees' warmth-preserving formation.

Feed bees sugar syrup early in the season to help build up honey stored for winter feeding, then switch to Pro-Winter Feed for optimal nutrition during the coldest months.

Moisture Management Made Simple

Winter bee feed, such as fondant or dry sugar, helps reduce hive moisture by providing a solid food source that doesn't require bees to process moisture-heavy syrup. Since condensation from liquid feed can increase humidity inside the hive, using solid feed can mitigate this risk, keeping the hive drier and reducing the chance of mold or cold stress. However, it's still essential to provide proper ventilation to manage moisture effectively.

Seamless Transition to Spring

When spring arrives, transition from Pro-Winter Feed to protein-rich pollen patties. This supports your honey bee colony as they ramp up brood production. By using Pro-Winter Feed, you're not just helping your bees survive – you're ensuring they have enough stored honey to thrive.

To feed bees, prepare patties using the premixed pollen substitute and place your patties over your hive's top bars or create custom sizes using wax paper. Remember, consistent availability is crucial – stock up to guarantee your bees never lack winter food. While Pro-Winter Feed is designed for managed hives, it's important to note that wild bees have their own natural strategies for winter survival.

With Pro-Winter Feed, you're a steward of winter bees, ensuring strong, healthy colonies ready to flourish in spring. Don't let your bees struggle through winter – provide them with the nutrition they need to maintain their honey stores and emerge strong when warmer weather returns.

    Bees barely touched it

by Kevin Raney on Mar 21, 2024

Bought 3 buckets of the winter feed, put it in 25 gives to test with. Barely any of the hives are it. Quite a few hive died with feed dropping into the cluster. Wanted to like it, but I'll just stick with sugar blocks for my winter feed.

    Pro-Winter Feed

by Kevin Raney on Mar 19, 2024

Disappointed. Bought 3 buckets this year to test with. Bees barely ate any of it and had issues with it dripping onto the bees. Several hives died, not sure if it's related to the moisture problem or not. I'll just go back to sugar blocks, at least the bees will eat those and dripping isn't a concern.

    Bees like it

by Chuck Crisler on Feb 27, 2024

I have used fondant in the past and all bees ignored it. The bees really go after this. The comments about it being difficult are true, but a shim helps that out. This stuff works great.

    Good stuff!

by Ille on Feb 14, 2024

I've used the pro winter for 4 years and the bees like it. So much so that I must check it often as they consume it very quickly. Only one downside is extracting it from the bucket. I've yet to find the "optimum" way to do this easily. A negative but I will continue to use it.
